Our trip was a disaster. First we arrived at the Empire State Building Visitor Center to redeem our prepaid tickets for the Freestyle Pass. There were two people working the desk. The young lady evidently could only assist customers with paper tickets while the other attendant could help anyone. This was unfortunate because there were about 25 people in line and we all had phone tickets to redeem so we all had to wait for one attendant. When it was finally our turn, he proceeded to check his phone and let us know he'd be with us shortly. Another 5 minutes went by before he got done with conversation with the girl about Johnny. Then he reviews the process with us briefly. It was explained that our party of 7 would have the ability to choose 3 activities in addition to free admission to the NY museum, hop on hop off ferry access and hop on hop off bus service, and a 25 credit or prix fixed menu at certain restaurants. He then printed a ridiculous amount of paper and talked us into upgrading to VIP passes. Then we were off. We started at the empire state building which used one set of our tickets. Then we tried to find the bus. We were directed to the wrong bus and sent to the other side of the building. That bus was being unloaded bc it was off duty maintenance/break? Not sure? We got on the one behind it as directed. Then we realized we were on the downtown tour and we really wanted the uptown tour. We had no idea how to transfer tours. We exited the bus at the first stop near Nike on 5th Ave and decided to get on another bus. As buses were supposed to stop every 30 minutes, we should have had no more than a 10 minute wait. We watched a bus go by the stop without picking us up. We waited a total of 35 minutes and no other bus came by. So we took the subway to Central Park. Around 5:55 we went to a stop at the North east side of Central Park and waited about 30 minutes. No bus ever came. So we had to take 2 taxi's because none were big enough for all of us. Neither were the ubers. So we decided to go to Planet Hollywood to use our dinner credits. The waiter said he had to take our attraction tickets to use the credits. That left us with only 1 attraction ticket left which there should have been 2. Dinner took over 2 hours and there were no other buses running at that point anyway so we took 2 taxi's back to our car. For the amount of money we spent, we only got to ride one bus for a few minutes. And see only 1 attraction. It ended up costing us an additional 90 in transportation. We had visitors in from China and we only had one day to see the city. It was very sad for them. I'm incredibly disappointed.

what to expect

This hop-on hop-off pass is the easiest and most fun way to get around sprawling New York City. Explore this thriving metropolis at your own pace, as the pass is good for 72 hours. You’ll have as much time as you like at your selected destinations and can then just hop back on the next deluxe double-decker bus (arrives every 20–30 minutes).

In addition to hassle-free transportation that is an activity in itself, tickets to three, five or seven attractions are included. Choose from New York’s most iconic destinations, like the Empire State Building’s observation deck, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center and more.

Listen to your entertaining and informative guide illuminate the city with stories of how it came to be what it is today. Explore New York’s diverse neighborhoods and must-see places on your own. Use this all-access pass to get back on the bus at your leisure, and it’s on to the next destination of your choosing: walk through Central Park, the most-visited public park in the US; take in the exciting chaos of Times Square; get an art fix at the Guggenheim; peruse SoHo’s trendy shops; or eat your way through Chinatown and Little Italy. Whatever you choose, you’ll have three full days to explore more than 40 stops. If you choose to do an entire loop, each of the three loops takes between two and three hours to complete.

And if you’re not able to fit in everything you’d like to during the day, this pass also offers the opportunity to embark on a night tour (not hop-on hop-off) to see New York’s dazzling lights from the top of the open-air, double-decker bus. If you choose that option, hop aboard (and get your camera ready) to see sparkling Times Square, the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, the Empire State Building and more.
